Our Rooms

Ko Lollipops Waiwhetu

From its rich native bird life, the first settler ship arriving ‘Aurora”- (Wellington Anniversary Day) to Ngake and Whātaitai the tale of the two taniwha that lived in the Wellington Harbour, Te Whanganui-a-Tara and great Te Awa Kairangi is enriched with Māori heritage and a community where whānua and hoa comes first and coming together, is very special.

Our centre is nestled in the heart of Waiwhetu a quiet suburb, we are close to the Waiwhetu stream which runs through our community harbouring many different species of nga manu me nga tuna. The Waiwhetu stream feeds into Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Lollipops Waiwhetu is surrounded by two schooling communities and Waiwhetu marae.

After researching our local rohe and how we can make clear links to our own centre our rooms have been named after native and special birds which are found here in Aotearoa and in the bushlands.

Our Tui Tamariki (2 years olds) are birds that are discovering themselves, the Tui is known for their song and dances with each other, and this can be seen in our Tui Tamariki, they are finding their voice, singing and chatting and using this to explore their spaces. They are beginning to form friendships to which they can explore and grow.

And finally our Kakapo tamariki, these little birds are very intelligent but cheeky birds and this is how we see our tamariki, they are growing their wings and getting ready to take flight to school but not without a laugh before they go.
