Transition to School Workshop

Transitioning from an early childhood centre into primary school is a big step – not just for children, but also for their parents.

Last night the team at Lollipops Newton Road hosted a transition to school workshop to help prepare parents for the next phase of their children’s learning journeys.

“We focused on what successful transitions to school look like, the factors that play a role in how well children transition, and the ways they can be supported through the process as successfully as possible,” said centre manager Bharti Gautam.

“It also threw some light on the idea that the shift between an ECE centre and primary school should be seen as a fluid movement. The early childhood setting and the new entrant classroom programme should overlap in order to benefit children and their social and learning needs during the transition.”

As part of the workshop a new entrant teacher coordinator from local primary school Newton Central came along to talk to parents, providing detailed information on what schools look at when children first start with them.

“The workshop was attended by lots of parents and was a huge success. I think everybody found it extremely valuable,” Bharti said.
